New seeking algorithms have been introduced to reduce the amount of work it has to do to find data, reducing the amount of power drawn and noise made. A free-fall sensor also detects if it has been dropped, moving the parts into secure positions to prevent damaging the drive. The parts are also secured when the drive is being powered up and down.
This drive comes in three capacities: 160GB, 250GB, or 320GB. It connects with a standard SATA connection and fits into a 2.5 inch drive bay. Speed is increased by spinning the disk at 7200 RPM, and 16MB of cache helps to read and write in larger blocks.
