The Western Digital SiliconDrive III Series is a line of internal SSD drives announced in mid June 2009. Capacities vary between models with the 2.5" SATA and 2.5" PATA versions coming in 15GB, 30GB, 60GB, 90GB and 120GB and the 1.8" Micro SATA version available in 15GB, 30GB, and 60GB.

All models share the same WD-developed technology which includes PowerArmor, SiSMART and SolidStor. These have helped the drives achieve a 3 million hour lifespan as well as notify you of a potential failure(SiSMART), protect against a power surge(PowerArmor) and improve overall efficiency and accuracy with the patented data transfer algorithms of SolidStor. Aimed at professional applications and military as well, there is an extended temperature version available in all three models which increases the maximum operational temperature for use in extreme climates. Shock resistance is rated at 1000G's and a maximum operating altitude is also given up to a maximum of 80,000 feet. The inclusion of a PATA version is also a benefit to those institutions and/or users who still use that protocol.
