The Synology DS106j is a one bay IDE Network Attached Server (NAS) that comes with a maximum 500GB capacity and 32MB RAM. Three USB 2.0 ports are located on the unit with two in the back and one in the front that has an accompanying copy button that allows you to directly copy the contents of a USB device to the hard drive.

Many of the applications that come with the similar DS109j have been included such as an iTunes server, BitTorrent, FTP, HTTP, eMule, and NZB, Photo Station 3, Download Station 2 and website hosting with PHP+MySQL. It is also DNLA certified which means it can stream audio and video content to compatible devices such as TV's, stereo systems, Xbox, PS3 and more.
Common with NAS servers, the software that you use to access it is web based, which means you use a web browser to communicate with it through the Gigabit LAN network connection. All of the above mentioned programs will run without your computer turned on which make it a good home entertainment hub for downloading and hosting all of your music, pictures and video.
