The Synology Disk Station DS409 Plus is a network-attached storage server designed for small-and-medium business owners. It builds from the original DS409 by incorporating an improved processor with double the RAM, therefore allowing it to function at a PC-equivalent performance level.

It too features non-hotswapable four bays that can fit SATA, SATA-II, and SSD drives up to a maximum capacity of 8TB. Included also a Gigabit interface, as well as two USB ports for adding external hard drives (FAT32, NTFS, ext3), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), printers, speakers, and even iPods. Sadly, it also lacks a one-touch backup button for USB devices. Highlights include an iTunes server capability, UPnP media streaming, and what critics hail as a powerful audio/photo media browser.

Additionally, the DS409 Plus ships with Desk Station Manager 2.1 software, which uses an AJAX-based interface and adds integration for new mail server capabilities; enhancements for Synology Surveillance Station; and better storage management and user management.
