The Cons:Difficult to replace drives - no easy access, hotswapping. Expensive. Poor read/write performance.
The Synology CS407e is a 4 X 3.5" SATA II drive NAS server that has a maximum 8TB capacity and is configurable in JBOD(just a bunch of disks), RAID 0, 1, 5, 5+ spare and RAID 6 formations. This makes various backup options possible and lets you add or remove a drive on the fly.

2 USB ports and Gigabit LAN are located on the back as well as the X1(80mmX80mm) fan exhaust, and the front of the unit has a blue backlit power button and 6 green LED's including one for each drive, status and LAN. This can be used as an office or home NAS(network attached server) and is replete with website hosting via PHP+MySQL and FTP with Bandwidth Control and Hack Prevention. A web based program is used to access the drive from your browser, and it can be programmed to run various auto-backup duties for all computers on it's network as well as host files and programs and in a home environment would be used to host media as well.
Other included software such as an onboard iTunes server and BitTorrent/eMule/FTP/HTTP/NZB servers mean you don't need a computer to use them now, you can download content straight to the unit. The CS407e is also DNLA certified which means it can stream a wide range of audio and video content to compatible devices like tv's, stereos, Xbox's, PS3 and more.
