Sony BDX-S500U
$240.00
Released September, 2010
The Pros:Writes BD-R (write once) and BD-RE (re-write) discs. Slim & compact, great for road warriors. Up to 6x Blu-ray burning speeds.
The Cons:Quite expensive at $240. USB 2.0 can often be a bottleneck, should have USB 3.0 instead. Cannot run off USB power - always needs extra AC adapter.
The Sony BDX-S500U is a compact, slim external Bly-Ray BD-R/BD-RE and DVD burner with USB 2.0 interface. It is an ideal companion for a laptop, netbook, or tablet PC that has no integrated optical drive (Apple does not support BluRay).

In ideal USB transfer conditions, it writes single BD-R media at up to 6X and dual layer BD-R media at up to 4X speeds, recording a full 25GB disc in about 20 minutes. One 25GB Sony BD-R blank disc is included with the drive, as well as CyberLink's Media Suite 8 for capturing, authoring, editing, backing up, HD content and playing back Blu-ray Disc movies (including 3D Blu-ray movies).
