This model has extra security features compared to its siblings in the same series. It has two types of Seagate Secure™ government-grade security — enterprise mode and BIOS mode, with a hardware based full disk encryption, with little impact on performance. If security is the strength of this model, speed is certainly its weakness. It comes with a 5400-RPM spindle speed, as opposed to the 7200-RPM speed, which makes it shut the system down 34 percent slower and opening big files can be 30 seconds slower than a 7200 RPM drive can manage.
It also has only 8 MB in cache size, relative to the other ones in the series that come with 16 MB in size. It runs as quietly as the rest, and has moderate shock resistance at 350 Gs shock tolerance at 2 ms, 1000 Gs at 1 ms. This model is more quiet in idle mode than some of the other models in this series such as Seagate Momentus 5400.6.
