The Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS is a Seagate's 500GB model from their Barracuda 7200.12 line-up of 3.5" desktop drives. The 7200.12 family boasts significant performance improvements over their previous generation of 7200.11 drives, featuring data transfer rates of up to 3Gb/s.

The most significant update in this 12th generation of 7200 drives is increased density, allowing for 500GB of storage in a single platter, which further increases performance.
The Barracuda 7200.12 drives are marketed as highly versatile, suitable for gaming and high-end PCs, as well as mainstream PC use and USB/FireWire/SATA external storage. Seagate also advertises sustainable production methods such as use of 70 percent recycled materials and RoHS directive compliance.
The 500GB model features a 16MB cache (compared to 32MB for the 750GB model and 8MB for the 320GB model), and a high-density structure with a single-disk construction.
