Introduced in August of 2009, the Solid 2 Series has some advantages over the original Solid Series including the onboard RAM and the new Indilinx Barefoot controller which is currently the fastest in use by OCZ. The read and write speeds have changed from that version also, with the 2 Series having a slower read speed of 125MB per second yet a faster write speed of 100MB per second. Seek time has been improved as well to less than 0.1ms from <0.2-0.3ms on the original Solid Series. Lifespan of an SSD generally is over a million hours and OCZ has rated their drives at 1.5 million hours before failure, this is due to the fact that they have no moving parts, require half the energy/battery power to operate and perform at ten times the speed of conventional HDD drives.
