LightScribe allows users to burn custom designs/labels, whereas SmartErase features Quick Erase and Full Erase. Quick Erase (the more useful of the two) erases only the data stored in the lead-in area, therefore allowing previously unrecoverable data stored in the center to be accessed once again. Like its peer, it also hosts a slew of advanced functionalities: SMART-BURN tech for avoiding buffer-under-run errors; a SMART-X function for faster data extraction; and ABS system, built specifically for reduced vibration and noise. Note that this model, however, does not support disc-labeling.
