LG BE08LU20

Released January, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Fast blu-ray burning. 6x! HD-DVD read compatibility! Lightscribe.

The Cons:A bit bulky.

The LG BE08LU20 is an external Blu-ray Disc writer featured at CES 2009 in Las Vegas, NV. This drive can read and write Blu-Ray discs at 6x speed, which is twice the speed of many other competing external Blu-ray writers.

LG claims that the BE08LU20 can burn 25GB of data onto a single-layer Blu-ray disc in 13 minutes, which is twice as fast as competing 4x writers. The LG BE08LU20 can also read and write DVDs/CDs at 16x speed. This device connects to a Windows-based PC via the integrated USB 2.0 or eSATA port. An added feature includes lightscribe, enabling users to label discs with the writer itself. For users interested in Blu-ray movie playback, The BE08LU20 can up-convert DVD content for high definition displays. Other software included with the drive can permit the recording of a 1920x1080p HDTV signal on to a Blu-ray disc. No official release date or pricing has been set, but it should be available sometime in the first quarter of 2009.
