Released September, 2008
The Pros:Fastest consumer SSD - best random small file reads/writes.
The Cons:Not quite affordable for the majority of consumers.
The Intel X18-M Mainstream is an MLC-based, 1.8” solid-state disk drive geared toward regular laptop/desktop PCs. It is the 1.8” counterpart to the 2.5” X-25M. It combines Intel’s NAND flash memory technology with a high-performance controller to deliver a 250MB/sec sustained read rate and 70MB/sec write speed.

And unlike a conventional hard-disc drive, the X18-M can handle a greater workload with less space, zero cooling, and bare-minimum power consumption. And since there are no moving heads or rotating players, there is much improved latency and a far superior Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS). It retails in two sizes: 80GB, 160GB.
