Hitachi Travelstar 5K500

The Hitachi Travelstar 5K500 is a 2.5” internal HDD designed for use in entertainment power-house notebooks, sleep desktop PCs, external storage devices, and other advanced mobile applications. An upgrade from the Hitachi Travelstar 5K320, the Travelstar 5K500 features a 5400RPM drive and an 8MB data buffer cache with a whopping 824Mb data transfer rate needed for an enhanced entertainment experience.

In addition, the Travelstar 5K500 internal HDD features Hitachi’s patented Rotational Vibration Safeguard (RVS) technology that protects the unit from vibrations, optional Bulk Data Encryption (BDE) for hard-drive-level data security, and altitude-sensing Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC). The most notable feature about the 5K500 is that the fact that it is cited as being extremely energy efficient. The Hitachi Travelstar 5K500 retails in a SATA 3Gb interface with 400GB or 500GB models. Prices range between $200 to $350.
