The Hitachi Travelstar 5K250 is a 2.5” internal HDD for notebook PCs that delivers 56% capacity improvement, 8% better application performance, and 23% greater shock performance than its predecessor.

An upgrade from the Hitachi Travelstar 5K160, the Travelstar 5K250 internal HDD boasts enhanced acoustics for higher quality audio, a longer battery life, and the ruggedness needed for a portable notebook PC. The most notable upgrade offered by the 5K250 is the inclusion of Bulk Data Encryption to help guard against data loss and piracy. This unique technology scrambles data as it is written to the disk, and then descrambles it when the user later retrieves the data. It provides an enhanced level of protection than traditional password-based HDD security. The Hitachi Travelstar 5K250 retails in either a SATA 3Gb or SATA 1.5Gb interface with 80GB, 120GB, 160GB, 200GB, and 250GB models. Prices range between $75 to $200.
