Buffalo DriveStation Duo USB 3.0
$459.99
Released January, 2011
The Pros:Removable front plate/Swap drives without tools. 225MB/s USB 3.0.
The Buffalo DriveStation Duo USB 3.0 is an external desktop hard drive with dual-bay enclosure that can be used in RAID 0 and RAID 1 configurations and is available in 2 and 4 terabyte capacities. This just means that you can use both drives as one or have one drive automatically 'mirror' the other for half the available space but backed up in duplicate.

Transfer speeds are rated at 225MB/s which is about double the speed of USB 2.0, and the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connection is backwards compatible so not to worry. Like the DriveStation Quad USB 3.0, the front plate can be removed and the drives accessed for maintenance and swapping without the need for tools. Often used in audio and video editing applications due to its speed and storage capabilities, it also comes with professional server software such as Windows Server 2003 and 2008 and NovaBACKUP Business Essentials which can backup both servers and PCs. Although preformatted for Windows computers, Buffalo drives may be formatted for use with Mac Time Machine as well.
